4th April 2022, International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action was celebrated in
Under the slogan Safe Land..Safe StepS. Safe Sudan
1- The National Units for Mine Action and Development Organization (NUMAD) is one of the leading and effective organizations in the field of mine action in Sudan, and it has the largest share in the clearance operations within the framework of mine action program in Sudan.
2- NUMAD has traditionally held annually celebration of International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action in Sudan, which took place on 4th April.
NUMAD held celebrations in all its sub-offices in Sudan (Blue Nile -Darfur region – South Kordofan – Kassala).
The events started on 27/3/2022 and continued until the main celebration on 4th April 2022, where the choice was made to hold the main celebration in the capital of Blue Nile Region Damazin, honored by the Blue Nile Region Governor His Excellency Lieutenant-General Ahmed Al-Omda Padi, His Excellency Brigadier General Khalid Hamdan The National Mine Action Center director, United Nation Mine Action Service In Sudan (UNMAS)Director Mr. Mohamed Seedig Rashed, NUMAD Deputy Vice Director Mr. Maher Ramadan. In the presence of government leaders, , local administrations, mayors, sheikhs ,other organizations and people with disability Union
The event had a joint exhibition between NMAC &NUMAD, enhanced a demonstration of different assets of land release, such as manual detector, large-loop, then a minefield show explains how to deal with a mine until it is removed from the ground, It is worth noting that the practical aspect of the mine field was carried out by NUMAD first team of women, who were trained on the basics of clearance, as NUMAD took the initiative in managing this training.
South kurdofan:
The celebration took place on the 31st of March in the capital of south kordufan state Kadugli|( Alhuriya Square), under Sponsored and honored by South Kordofan deputy Governor. In the presence the National Mine Action Center (NMAC), Local Administration, Humanitarian Aid Commission(HAC), Military Commander in SK representatives ,Where the celebration was accompanied by a number of activities such as exhibition of clearance equipment’s, presenting awareness sessions(MRE) , heritage ,Alhakamat, and dramatic paragraph about mines and remnants of war dangers, as well as providing some in-kind assistance to mine victims, and also distributing some gifts to the participants such as T-shirts, caps and bags that carry awareness messages.
Nyala:
The celebration was honored by People with Disabilities Union (PWDs) Secretary-General, People with Disabilities Union(PWDs) Manager , in he presence of Humanitarian Aid Commission(HAC) representative ,and Global Aid Hand Organization representative in South Darfur state, as well as Al-Furqan School Director
The celebration targeted land mine casualties and people with disabilities (PWDs) in South Darfur because they suffer a lot from neglect, inability to move, and inability to move outside disabled house, For that, the event was held at (PWDs)house .
The celebration start with an introductory exhibition that includes all kinds of UXOs &remnants of war in Darfur region ,as well as a number of leaflets and posters containing societal awareness messages(……) , there were also awareness lectures in schools through textbook.
The event included a comprehensive enlightenment about the International Day of Awareness, integrated awareness sessions about the dangers of land mines, unexploded ordnance (UXOs) and remnants of war.
Emphasis was placed on the role of National Mine Action Center (NMAC) in general supervision of all mine action activities, in addition to the role of organizations in coordinating and implementing mine action operations.
NMAC Sub-Office Manager praised NUMAD’s celebration and said that the celebration was integrated and fulfilled all necessary requirements to disseminate awareness messages about the dangers of mines and remnants of war.
In conclusion, gifts bearing awareness messages and slogan of International Day were distributed to attendees, such as (T-shirts, hats, pens and masks).
Alfasher:
In coordination with the National Center for Unexploded Ordnances Disposal (alfasher) ,and Disabled Union Secretary in North Darfur State, the first part included a full comprehensive definition of NUMAD vision, mission, goals, partners and achievements in the field of mine action specially clearance operations, supported by distribution leaflet to participants.
The second part include a comprehensive session to raise awareness about forms and damages of UXOs, as well as the procedures that must be followed in case of finding them, in addition to the dangerous and suspected areas that are prohibited from approaching, local and international marks, Awareness stories were told about UXOs danger, accompanied by distribution of posters related.
Kassala:
The celebration was held in 27/3/2022 Kassala State in a different way by holding awareness sessions in a number of affected areas, schools, Local Squares. , gifts bearing awareness messages and slogan of International Day were distributed to attendees, such as (T-shirts, hats, pens, bags, and masks).
Conclusion:
The conclusion of the celebration included several questions about the organization and its field of work, the remnants of war, and the procedures that must be followed, if any.
NUMAD’s team expressed its gratitude and appreciation to the National Center for unexploded ordnance disposal, people with Disability and Remnants of War injured for their participation and good coordination.
